Col. Andrew Miller, Air Mobility Command’s director of operations, strategic deterrence and nuclear integration, and the lead planner for exercise Mobility Guardian 2025, poses for a portrait May 29, 2025, at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. Miller and his team began planning Mobility Guardian nearly two years ago, coordinating with units across the Air Force, as well as joint and allied partners. “What’s really cool about large-scale exercises is that we don’t often get everybody together from all different areas of competency in order to integrate for greater effect,” Miller said. “So, when we talk about being better together, that’s really where large-scale exercises come into play. They help us facilitate learning in a much broader context, because otherwise we’re just small areas of expertise working on our own skillsets.” The Department-Level Exercise series is designed to test cooperation and integration across the service’s components.
